Leave Sanur as an Island Gateway

An Unremarkable Beach town

Sanur is a quiet coastal town in southeastern Bali, Indonesia. It is best known for its harbor - which is where tourists catch the fast ferries bound for the small islands of Bali and Lombok - as well as Lombok itself. For the most part, Sanur is an unremarkable but pleasant beach town, so I recommend just stopping into it on your way to the harbor and not staying overnight. However, if you’re hoping to explore the south of Bali by motor scooter, Sanur can offer a quieter and more relaxed base than nearby Kuta or Seminyak.

If you’re staying for a couple of days, the downtown strip of Sanur offers the essentials of Bali to have a relaxing holiday - wellness centers, spas, delicious warungs (kitchens), and a tiny night market. Just walk around Jalan Danau Tamblingnan and you’ll find everything you need. The only must do in Sanur is to stroll (or bike) along its long oceanside promenade - which is full of restaurants and hotels offering pool packages. If you’re around in the early morning, you’ll even catch a stunning sunrise.
